Bc 52 – Casa Sombreada
Site Description:
Bc 52 is a small house site built against a cliff on a talus slope. It is located on the south side of the canyon in a rincon across from Pueblo Bonito and Chetro Ketl. The University of New Mexico/School of American Research field schools excavated the site in 1940 under the direction of Paul Reiter and in 1941 under the direction of William Mulloy. Bc 52 is composed of 20 single-story rooms and three kivas.
This site is also known as Casa Sombreada, 29SJ400, and LA40400.
Excavation History
- 1940-1941: Excavated by the Paul Reiter, William Mulloy, and the University of New Mexico field school.
Size and Dates
- Approximately 20 ground floor rooms and three kivas.
- Construction dates from the late 11th through the mid 12th century (McKenna and Truell 1986: 298).
